Welcome AMS Families! As we begin another exciting school year, I would like to invite each and every AMS Family to make a difference in your child’s education by joining the PTA Family. Our PTA at AMS is active throughout the school year and provides support to our school in many ways, such as sponsoring academic and social programs, and enriching the school by providing valuable materials to our classrooms. The number-one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more advantages to joining.

Tap into a Network Parenting is not easy—it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind.

Watch Yourself Grow By volunteering with your PTA, you gain valuable experiences. It's an opportunity to put your skills and hobbies to good use for a good cause—your child and all children in the community.

Speak Up Because the PTA is a forum for exchanging ideas, you are encouraged to make suggestions. PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child's school.

Witness Improvement By getting involved at your child's school you'll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum-based programs, and social events—all vital to a school's success.

Be a Role Model By becoming a PTA member, you'll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.

How much does it cost?
$6.00 per individual member (or 2 for $10). Anyone can join—Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, etc.

What do I get for joining?
Your membership supports the National, State and Local PTA and entitles you to:
* Receive one FREE copy of the AMS Directory (available only to PTA members)
* Membership in the State of Maryland and National PTA’s
* Eligibility to discuss and vote on PTA business
* A fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference in your child’s future and learn about important issues affecting children at our school and in our community

When are the meetings and do I have to attend them?
The PTA meets the second Tuesday evening of every month, except for two meetings held in the afternoons to encourage additional participation. Joining the PTA does not obligate you to volunteer at school or attend PTA meetings—although we hope you will! NOTE: A qualified adult provides free childcare for the evening meetings.

How do I join?
Joining is easy! Just fill out the membership form and return it to school main office in an envelope marked PTA Membership. You will then receive a welcome letter with the meeting schedule and your PTA card. The AMS Directory will be sent home upon publication.
